Don’t suffer in silence
Mental illness can affect people of all ages and from all walks of life.
Many of us feel sad or moody from time to time, however individuals experiencing severe or prolonged symptoms of depression, anxiety or related disorders that last more than a week and which interferes with the ability to function on a daily basis, should consult a Doctor.
Toronto Private Hospital provides a range of inpatient and day programs to help you manage your condition.
Speak to your GP for a referral or call the Woodlands Unit on 4956 0682 for more information.
The Woodlands Unit
This is a 24 bed, voluntary, Acute Mental Health Unit ideally situated to capture the tranquil view and setting of Lake Macquarie.
The healthcare teams are lead by two well known and experienced psychiatrists:
- Dr. Allan White, a renowned expert in the treatment of dually diagnosed psychiatric illness along with drug and/or alcohol addiction.
- Dr. Catherine Faehrmann deals with general psychiatric illness, including mood disorders such as Bipolar Affective Disorder, Major Depression, Personality Disorders, Schizophrenia and other psychotic illnesses. As the Director of Psychiatry, Dr. Feahrmann also supervises the administration ECT.
The Woodlands Unit has 14 single rooms and 5 twin share rooms. Wherever possible, clients are accommodated in single rooms, however, when this is not possible decisions are based on the needs of the client and the clinic. Many of the rooms (both single and double) enjoy sweeping views of the lake and tranquil bush lands. All rooms have an en suite bathroom, television and phone.
Programs and Education:
A variety of well-researched therapeutic programs, group sessions and activities have been developed by experienced clinicians, based on best-practice principals. The groups are facilitated by experienced Psychologists, Occupational Therapists and Nurses, all highly experienced in Mental Health Care. All clients are encouraged to attend programs and therapies as it is seen as an integral part of their recovery and wellness, however the extent and type of group sessions they attend will depend on where they are situated on their continuum of recovery.
Education and support groups both for inpatients and outpatients are available to provide ongoing support to clients. All clients, including outpatients, may be referred to the Toronto Therapies Service (TTS). They can be contacted through the hospital’s main switchboard number: 4950 4477. All Clients referred to this service are assessed by Dr. Cynthia Parker and her team to asses what programs would best serve their needs, these options are discussed with the client and appropriate arrangements made.
Further information regarding outpatient services can be obtained from Mr. Simon Raine, TTS manager: 4950 4477
